How To Manage Food Allergies

Food allergies are extremely common. Certain components or contaminants present in the food items consumed by us can give us allergies. Food allergy can be caused either by components in food such as gluten, lactose, and some proteins or due to contaminants in the food. For example, certain preservatives and insecticides act as allergens. These contaminants can enter food while storing or processing it. There are food items that we are already aware of that will cause allergy to us – it is best to eliminate those items from the diet. When we go outdoors for food, be at a restaurant or someone’s place, it is important to inform the person serving food about the food items we are allergic to. That way, they can be careful to not serve us such food items.

Items that we are allergic to should be eliminated from the diet. However, we should focus on garnering the nutrients needed for the body from alternate food items. We should carefully read food labels and be aware of the ingredients of the food item, in order to avoid allergies. We should recognize early symptoms of food allergies and keep anti-allergy medication with us at all times.
In case we are allergic to a certain dish, we should ensure that we do not get served with the same spoon that has been used with that dish. That way, we can avoid cross-contamination.
